Upload To Your Web Space

When you sign up for a Web-ster Internet account, you automatically receive 25 MB of free Web space. To upload files to your personal Web space, follow the instructions below.

Once you have designed and created your Web pages, you are ready to upload the information to the server and publish your site on the Web. At first glance this may seem like a daunting task, but with an FTP application it takes only a few simple steps.

Accessing Your Web Space with Internet Explorer
The simplest method for accessing your personal Web space is to use either an FTP client or Internet Explorer.

Logging On
To access your Web space via Internet Explorer, type ftp://username@ftp.web-ster.com in the browser's address bar. You are prompted to enter your username and password.

Transferring Files using Internet Explorer
To transfer files from your computer to your Web space, simply copy them from your desktop to Internet Explorer.

  1. Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking the Start button and then selecting Explore....
  2. Navigate to the location of the files you want to copy. Click a file to select it, and then open the Edit menu and select Copy. To select multiple files, hold down the Ctrl key and click each file you want to select.
  3. In the Internet Explorer window, click Edit and then select Paste. Your files are copied over to your personal Web space!

TIP: Name your home page index.htm. This makes it so your visitors don't have to type the specific name of your home page in the URL. For example, if your name is John Doe and your home page is named johnspage.htm, visitors need to type http://www.canby.com/johndoe/johnspage.htm in order to open your home page.

However, if you name your home page index.htm, visitors only need to type http://www.canby.com/johndoe to open it.
